Emirates Nature-WWF Job Description at a Glance:

  • The Field Officer will play a pivotal role in our Mangrove Restoration Project, responsible for various field-related tasks crucial to the project’s success. This role involves extensive fieldwork, including site assessments for restoration suitability, supervision of workers and contractors, meticulous documentation of site activities, on-going mangrove monitoring, and the systematic reporting of collected data.

    Major duties and Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise other field consultants during the preparation of the mangrove management plan and restoration design as well as contractors during the planting activities
    • Co-lead the coordination of any restoration action on the ground (i.e., liaise with the workers during theplanting, supervise the work, etc.)
    • Lead the restoration activities on the ground in a safe manner (i.e., fieldwork logistics, organize equipment, engage with volunteers and other communities, collect data, etc.)
    • Supervise volunteers and ensure best practices for planting activities are being followed
    • Support any citizen science activities in the restoration area
    • Assist the Project Manager and Technical Expert with compiling and gathering information needed for the project (i.e., during site selection, baseline surveys, restoration and other tasks)
    • Support the engagement of a mangrove nursery contractor and other potential vendors (boat, etc.)
    • Ensure regular communication with the Project Manager and Technical Expert before and after each activity
    • Provide the data collected and findings from the field or research to the Project Manager and Technical Expert in a timely manner

    Required qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, marine biology, or relevant field
    • Experience working on marine ecosystem projects such as mangroves restorations
    • Valid UAE driver’s license
    • Proficiency in English
    • High level of cultural sensitivity and awareness with ability to work in a multi-cultural setting
    • Proven knowledge and or experience in the non for profit sector, preferably of environmental non-government organizations

    Mangrove Knowledge: Understands mangrove ecosystems, their importance, and the factors affecting their health and growth.

    Environmental Monitoring: Conducts on-going monitoring of mangrove sites, tracking changes in vegetation, water levels, and environmental conditions.

    Documentation: Maintains detailed documentation of field activities, including photographs, notes, and data.

    Health and Safety Awareness: Adheres to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment during field activities.

    Report Writing: Prepares comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations effectively.

    Technical Equipment Handling: Handles and maintains field equipment such as GPS devices, soil testing kits, and water quality measurement tools.
