Zayed University Job Description at a Glance:

The Opportunity
The incumbent is responsible for providing academic tuition for Students of Determination to facilitate them in the development of academic language, literacy and study skills required to enable them to reach their full potential in their disciplinary studies. Using a student-centered philosophy, the candidate must be adaptable, flexible, and happy to work in an ever-changing environment with a capacity to develop a catalogue of innovative and creative learning activity strategies. Strong interpersonal skills to work closely with faculty, SAS administration and Students of Determination are of paramount importance, and an interest in developing new skills and knowledge, especially in technology, as required by the evolving demands of SAS and the needs of Students of Determination.
The Responsibilities
Liaise closely with SAS manager and specialists, and conduct needs analysis to understand the language, academic literacy, and executive functioning requirements of Students of Determination.
Prepare and deliver effective, targeted creative and innovative teaching/tutorials sessions on academic literacy, language, and executive functioning.
Share, develop and revise creative, innovative and/or effective materials, by adapting course materials used for content instruction to support students’ development.
Liaise with counterpart(s) across campuses and maintain effective working relationships to ensure appropriate consistency and exchange of ideas.
Keep records of students and support provided and communicate these to SAS manager as required.
Participate in discussions with SAS colleagues to maximize the effectiveness of the instruction.
Contribute to the collection of data on the effectiveness of academic support provided to Students of Determination.
Actively promote a positive image of SAS within the university.
Advise faculty, as requested, on approaches to teaching, material and assessment design that consider Students of Determination learning needs.
Teach IELTS preparation classes when requested.
Ensure Professional Standards at all times by:
Encouraging student responsibility for their own learning.
Providing high quality feedback to Students of Determination on their learning.
Maintaining professional levels of confidentiality.
Adhering to and enforcing Zayed University policies and procedures.
Completing all administrative procedures in a timely and professional manner.
Participating in faculty support and training as required.
Behaving in a cooperative, supportive, respectful and understanding manner towards colleagues at all times.
Willingness to work flexibly according to SAS requirements.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with faculty, SAS administration and students is essential.
A genuine and passionate interest in promoting student success and an interest in working with students in intensive 1:1 and group tutorial situations.
Must have linguistic knowledge of the disciplines offered at ZU or the interest to develop it.
Ability to assess students’ academic, linguistic, and executive functioning, and develop strategies to address them.
Interest in developing new and innovative materials.
Capacity to work under pressure for long hours at a stretch when student deadlines are due.
Capacity to work independently and creatively without close direction, balanced with good organizational skills.
Familiarity with assistive technology and an ability to transfer skills to Students of Determination
The Requirements
Ten years’ experience of teaching at tertiary level or a relevant Masters’ and five years’ experience.
Working experience of Students of Determination with Physical Disabilities and Learning Difficulties.
Native or near native level of spoken and written English.
A professional teaching qualification an advantage.
